Laptop screen broken, external hdmi output works, but the gpu doesn't work!

I have a Lenovo Y50 gaming laptop and I droped it and broke my screen. I have disconnected the screen and connected an external monitor using hdmi. Everything works fine but when I play high end games, the graphics wont switch to my Nvidia GPU. I have not enjoyed games on my laptop since very long. Please help!!

The external monitor port may way be set up to only use the integrated graphics. You would have to check the settings/properties to be sure.
