Laptop screen malfunction

Hey I was wondering if anyone could help me, I just got a laptop for free and the screen is acting strangly, it's a HP ProBook 4710s.

The problem is some colours are displaying as thin green vertical lines, I've installed all graphics drivers, used the Catalyst software to get the newest ones available.

I'm guessing it's gonna be a hardware problem, is there anything I could try to fix it?

I can post pictures if anyone needs to see them, thanks in advance.

Very possibly a loose or semi-broken ribbon cable. You'll have to take it apart to inspect.

Would be really good news if it was just that! I'll look up how to take it apart and see what I can see, cheers man.

It seems okay, connected solid as far as I can see, do I need to take off the screen as well as the keyboard area?

Not at all

take a picture of the screen so we can see the lines. if have or can borrow a monitor, try it to see if the lines show up on the monitor as it tell you if a screen problem if no lines shown or a videocard if lines are shown.

Good idea! Just tried it out, the colour on my TV is perfectly clear and good, so that should mean it's just the cable right?

Also how would I go about reinstalling Windows on a HP laptop? I tried to download the ISO from Microsofts website and they said I have to contact HP to reinstall? Is that the only way?

The download ISO from MS is only for Retail licenses. OEM, they expect you to get it from the manufacturer.

don't have to use oem as full of bloatware thereby spending more time getting rid of the bloatware.

Is integrated or dedicated graphics could be the solder starting to go on the chip.

jhaydon81, if that was the problem then the external monitor would have the same problem as the screen so as the external does not have that problem then not onboard video issue.
