laptop screen not working works with external would this be a graphics card issue?

My laptop screen broke. I replaced screen it seemed to work if you pushed or pulled here or there until it wouldn't but for a split second. I hooked it up to tv laptop works fine only on tv. I took it to shop they say it's a graphics card issue. Is this a graphics card issue if it works on tv screen?

it is because of a loose contact in the cable from your mobo to backside of screen
if it was a problem of graphics card u would not get display in TV
