I'm working on restoring a HP DV2000 and find myself once again in a bind.

The laptop came without a hard drive. I sourced a hard drive, only to realize that the laptop was also missing the SATA adapter and the drive caddy.

Then I sourced that, only to find that the caddy only comes with 4 screws to mount the hard drive to the caddy, and nothing to mount the caddy to the laptop drive bay.

In the hardware service manual, the specifications for the screws I need are:

Phillips PM2.5×5.0 .

As luck would have it, I don't have any of those - they're a tad tinier than any in my collection of screws.

Looking around, I can find sources for M2.5×5.0 screws. Are there any differences between the two designations? One source seems to think they're fungible. I'm not sure and I'd rather not order them if they won't work.

Hey, thanks! I appreciate the effort. I went ahead and got these - partially because they're a mixture of sizes, so hopefully next time I'll have what I need, but primarily because I got them overnight with Amazon 1-day delivery.

In case anyone wants to know, they seemed to fit. While I still don't know why there're different designations for the same thing, I'm all sorted out on the hardware front with this problematic little laptop.

Software-wise it's a whole 'nuther kettle of fish.
