Laptop shows black screen with both battery and power cord inserted BUT works fine when connected with only power cord

I have a Toshiba Satellite C50. When I turn it on with the power cord plugged in and the battery removed, the laptop works just fine. However if I insert the battery and the power cord then there is a black screen BUT the power button led lights. With just the battery the laptop does not turns on.
Can Anybody tell what is causing the problem and how to solve it.

could be an issue with your battery or battery connector.if u can find a spare battery u can test it out.also are you using the original power adapter?

Yes I am using the original power adapter
