laptop sleeping(!) itself

Hi. I bought an asus x550d laptop about a week ago and installed windows 8.1 on it.,But I have some problems with it. The laptop sleeps itself sometimes while I'm using it. And some times when i turn it on, the screen goes black(before desktop comes up) and I have to restart it once and sometimes more. Is it a problem with my windows or can it be hardware related? thanks in advance.

This is software related probably.
What to do:
1. Press on the "Battery" in the task bar.
2. Press more power options.
3. Press "Change when the computer sleeps" or "Choose when to turn off the display"

4. Tweak the settings to your needs.
(This was for Windows 7, but should also work for Windows 8.1)
