Laptop speakers unbalanced

Hi everyone, I have a Lenovo y510p that's been giving me trouble. The left speaker works fine, but the right speaker randomly only outputs at 50% of its normal volume level.

I usually temporarily solve the issue by going into the speaker properties and adjusting the balance level of one side to match the other. Output from the headphone jack is unaffected, and this problem has persisted through the upgrade from windows 8->10, as well as a full reformat.

This issue has been driving me crazy, I'd appreciate any help. Thanks in advance

There should be a option on your audio control panel which allows you to adjust balance. Try searching realtek in the start menu.

as you did a fresh install besides an upgrade then the problem is not software related but hardware. how old is the laptop?

It's about 2 years old. Think it could be a loose wire? I figured it probably wasn't since the speaker doesn't stop working entirely but only outputs at exactly 50% of normal. I can open it up and take a look if you're fairly certain it's a hardware issue.
