Laptop using default mic instead of plugged in mic

I am currently on a laptop. I have my mic plugged into the right jack, and believe I have even used this mic with this laptop before. However, when I'm on skype and other stuff, it's using the laptop mic instead of my own. I've already tested this mic with other computer and it works fine. I can't figure out why the heck it's using my laptop mic instead of my real mic.

There could be something in your settings to help with that.

Go in Sound > Recording & make sure that the mic is set as the Default Device.

Did you try looking at Skype or the system's default recording devices list to verify that your external mic actually shows up and make sure that it is the currently selected source?

Looks like the external one isn't showing up, are you sure it's connected correctly?

Yes its connected

its like its not even sensing that theres a mic, when i plug in the headset, the headphones work but the mic doesn't and still uses the computer mic

Same problem with me! It seems like it is not sensing that there is a mic at all!! please help!
