Laptop will not turn on

I just got my new battery for my laptop ( inspiron n4010) and now my laptop will not turn on the white light is on on my battery indicator does it just need to charge or do need to get a new laptop?

Does the laptop work without the battery? You have the charger plugged in when you put the new battery in correct? Did you let it charger for a while?
