Laptop with SSD but without HDD?

Can a laptop be functional with Windows installed on a SSD but no HDD?

*An MSI laptop to be precise.

Lots of the newer ones come with only a SSD. Usually in a laptop, there is only room for one drive so ... one often has to choose between a SSD or a standard HDD. Some of us do a work around by replacing the DVD drive with a little adapter that allows a 2nd hard drive to go in there.
