I have a sony laptop which after an involuntary windows 10 installation last summer was rendered useless. I tried fixing it by reinstalling windows 8 and later ubuntu. Current state is the laptop wont boot and I have probably deleted recovery mode as the "vaio assist button" does not do anything. After I power on the laptop the screen says "operating system not found" and nothing more.
How do I go about fixing this? Can I install an OS from a flash drive or something?

Any help is greatly appreciated

It means that the hard drive could need replacing. While I did understand that you only had the problem after installing 10, it is possible that the problem happened at the same time.

That said, it is completely possible that 10 is the problem. And when it got installed it may well have made alterations that did not get fixed when you tried to change the OS again. It would be good to try installing straight from an external drive or cd/dvd. Make sure you also have the needed drivers as well. You may also need to visit the manufacturers website, upon reinstalling the different OS and make sure that you have the right BIOS version as well.

Hi, first of all, thanks for replying.

What does it mean the harddrive is "shot", I am not familiar with this terminology; however, if you are saying you think the harddrive is damaged somehow, I am pretty sure this is not the case. Everything was working perfectly until I installed windows 10

I guess I will try to make a bootable flash drive or something, but I'm not sure if the computer will recognize this
