My laptop blue screened yesterday, I think it was the video card as the error code contained the word video, I stupidly forgot to right the whole thing down.

Restarted and it worked fine. At this point I should have updated the drivers but I didn't. I tried turning the laptop back on this morning, nothing happens. It's plugged in, the charging light is on, but nothing boots, no sound from the hardware booting up no sound at all. However the keyboard does flicker on and off a couple of times with a couple seconds gap in between.

Another thing to note, I replaced the battery yesterday as my laptop wouldn't turn on unless the charger was plugged in. This battery worked fine, fully charged it and unplugged the charger and it stayed on unlike before.

So, what should I do ? Do you think the drivers need updating ? How do I do this if I can't turn the laptop on ? 🙁(

Will it boot without the battery installed?

I contacted Dell on the issue, and they sent an Engineer out to replace the Motherboard. He replaced the motherboard and still nothing. So he thought the replacement motherboard was faulty.

He then contacted Dell himself and he was prompted to disconnect the BIOS battery and reset the cache (hold power button in for more than 15 seconds) and put back the BIOS battery. It then worked again (this was with my original motherboard).

So he then ordered another motherboard to replace at a later date. He came back the next day. Started to dismantle my laptop again, and this time the connector for the camera was difficult to disconnect. On closer examination he found that the connector had blown (see attached photos). And this was probably what started the whole problem. When he connected the new motherboard the first time, it was probably this fault that broke the replacement motherboard.

So when he replaced my old motherboard with the second new motherboard (without reconnecting the camera to the motherboard) it worked fine. Obviously without the camera, but also without the touch screen as they are the same connector (i think).

So a replacement screen was needed. He came back the next week, replaced the whole screen and it all works great, touch wood.

Luckily I had warranty other wise it would have costed upwards of £600 (300+ motherboard, 300+screen... )
