Hey, i'm trying to connect my notebook directly to my internet via a ethernet cable, it all connects, the little box on the bottom right shows that it has a connection, but i can't access any websites or use anything that requires internet.

Opening a webpage just shows at the bottom 'Waiting for proxy server' and then it just says i can't connect to the page. I have no idea what to do anymore, tried everything i know. Any ideas? Using Windows 7, Acer aspire.

If you need any pictures or information just ask, please i've been trying to figure this out for a long time now.

Oh, whenever i go to my cousins house, i can connect via ethernet there just fine, it's just here at my house that it doesn't work.

The internet is going through a modem, then into my computer. There's not way to fit the cable into my notebook without going through it first.

ISP > Modem > notebook at home, we have a router but there's like a trillion things blocked on it so i'm trying to get around it by just not using it(i don't want to use wifi anyways)

I live in Brazil so i don't think you'll know who the isp is, but it's oi velox.

I don't know how much help this will be, but hopefully it is any.

The connection is coming through the wall(the black cable on the left), running to the white box(modem), then it goes into the black one(router), where i can get wifi just fine.

What i did was take the ethernet cable from the white box(modem) and connect directly to my notebook.

Hi

If you are trying to bypass the router then your laptop is not getting the network settings from the DHP server built into the Router.

Usually internet modems have only one network (RJ45) port so are you disconnecting every one else from the modem and internet?

If the Router is setup to block access to certain web sites & internet resourses we should not be helping you bypass them.

You would require details of internet settings from the ISP or access to the Router settings to set up your laptops internet connection with a fixed IP address.

There's nobody else in the house or anyone else using the internet at all besides me.

I'm curious as to why this works in every other location, at my cousins house i do the exact same thing yet it works perfectly. I don't have the logins for the router settings unfortunately.

Hi

In many places you have a combined broadband modem , router , wireless access point

you have a broadband or cable modem connected to the router , wireless access point

often the admin password for router is written on a lable or is the serial number on the label or occasionally set at a default for brand of router (last is a bad idea)

Without the ISP supplied settings which are also visible in the Router settings screen you are unlikely to suceed in setting up your laptop to connect direcly to the broadband modem

so go back to connecting to the Router by network cable or wireless

I think i get what you guys are saying, the router is feeding some information that i need, that the modem simply won't give me?

Is there any way to get that information and put it into the computer without needing to conect to the router?

And no, the name isn't the default, i'd have to reset the router to get into it's settings.
