I have a HP laptop with Windows Vista SP2. Lately whenever I have clicked the red shutdown button, nothing happens. The computer stays on like the button was never clicked. The only way I am able to turn it off is to hold down the power button. I have tried searching the web, but have not found any information about this problem. I am hoping somebody here will have an idea of what is going on and how to fix it. Everything else on the computer works fine.
The only other small problem is that the speaker, network connection strength and battery power icons randomly will or will not show up in the system tray. I have found a fix for that, but it is only temporary. When I shut down the computer and turn it back on the problem comes back.
