So I took apart this laptop because the case is damaged and doesn't function properly (so its bare). I turned it on and it booted up fine but the battery was going down even though it was plugged in. I was just tinkering around and started to make a wooden base for it since the case was broken, I sanded the wood and dust went every (I don't know if this has to do with the problem). After putting it back together I plugged the battery and charger in, the charger led turned blue for a few seconds, than to orange for a few seconds shorter, and than blinked orange. If you pressed the power button during it being solid blue or orange it would turn on but only for a few seconds after saying "Getting devices ready" and it would turn off. It did this for a while until it would not turn on at all the lights are still the same though. I tried removing the cmos battery, the ram, the battery, the charger, and holding down the power button for 20 seconds. It also doesn't work with just the charger plugged in or a different HDD. I don't know what to do as I'm not to good with laptops, the only thing I could think of is a messed up motherboard.

Its an HP with a single stick of 4GB ram.

Well there could be sawdust in the device. That stuff gets everywhere. It also could be a power issue.

Try the following and see if it will turn on.

1. First make sure the device has been charged.
2. Unplug your charger cord.
3. Remove the battery.
4. Press and hold the "Power" button for 30 seconds and see if the device will turn on.
5. If it does, great, now plug back in the power/charger cord. (If it didn't turn on without the cord in, it should turn on once you it is in. Yes sometimes they will turn on, or try to turn on, even with nothing attached/plugged in.)
6. Now put the battery back in.

If this doesn't help, then test the power cord to see if it is good. Either try your cord in another device, or try another devices cord in your laptop.

Should that not be the problem, then check the battery to see if it needs replacing.

If this also doesn't help, then you may need either the jack or even the motherboard replaced.

Yeah I sorta already said that I tried this... but thanks. :)

I added the full info as most people say I did this or that, but never really the full thing. Can't hurt to check. Especially since that is what the blue and orange lights usually means.

Have you tried seeing if it will start in "Safe Mode"?

You may also want to try running it without the battery in and see if that works. If not, the only thing I can think of from here is the RAM, the BIOS or the Motherboard would be the culprit.

How would I be able to go into safe mode when it cannot turn on? I've already tried starting it without the battery and I won't bother replacing anything that's broken because this was just to have a laptop because there was just a working laptop, I would rather eventually buy a new one if needed.

All it needs is to turn on to try and start, you said the lights come on for a moment or two. If it is long enough, you can try "Safe Mode" if it isn't, then you can't.

If that isn't an option, then that means parts. However you have said you don't want to replace any parts.

"However" I said it doesn't come on anymore... :hum:

Well if it won't even blink on for just a moment or two, there is nothing to do that would not involve parts at this point.

Unless.. You could try pulling the CMOS battery, leave it out for 5 to 10 minutes, and then place it back in and see if it will start. If it isn't that, then it is hardware.
