So it's winter here. When I use my older laptops with metal on the case sometimes I give them a static shock (usually when getting off couch) and they turn off, and won't turn on until they are unplugged and plugged back in. These have non grounded 2 prong power adapters. If I am correct, the 3 prong adapters are grounded so this doesn't happen. But with no ground, the static still has a place to go but has to go through the electrical system, and essentially, the motherboard or the power adapter shuts off power due to the high voltage shock. This only happens when they are plugged into the wall outlet.

Does this sound correct?

...yes, the wiring in my house is good.

Laptop chargers/mains adapters should only be plugged in to an earthed power socket, adapters with no earth pin should never be used for appliances which must be earthed.

I can't understand why you're using two-pin adapters at all, most importantly it's potentially dangerous to life.

I use two prong chargers, because they came with my computer. I can agree with my very basic knowledge of electricity that they are at least slighty more dangerous, but I doubt Compaq wants to kill me, and I have never gotten a non-static shock(as in the computer shocked me with wall electricity.) It never said on the comuputer "must be earthed". if it had to be earthed, wouldn't they include a 3- prong charger?
