These laptops are almost identical in terms of specifications, as reflected by the similar prices, and since they are both very basic entry-level devices I doubt very much you'll register any significant difference between them.
Going by your background info, I assume that the laptop will be used mostly at home with the power cord plugged into the wall. If so, both machines are likely to offer at least 3 to 4 years of hassle-free use. Note that the HP has better battery life and a slightly better CPU. RAM capacity in the Lenovo can be expanded to 8GBs, but doing this yourself may void the warranty.
Neither machine is renowned for 'solid construction' - as I said earlier they are both very basic devices - so you have to 'be nice and careful' with them. Lenovo may enjoy a better reputation for build-quality, but that is primarily based on models from the 300-series and above. Your 100-series IdeaPad is designed to be affordable more than anything else - just like the HP.
