The stats are as follows:

  • Lenovo Y510p
-Intel Core i7-4700MQ 2.4GHz
-1TB HDD @ 5400rpm + 24GB SSD
-NVIDIA Geforce GT 750M (2GB GDDR5) SLI
-Matte 1920x1080 15.6" display
-Writable-Bluray Ultrabay Module

  • MSI GE Series GE60 2OE-003US
-Intel Core i7-4700MQ 2.4GHz
-750GB HDD @ 7200rpm
-NVIDIA GeForce GTX 765M (2GB GDDR5)
-Matte 1920x1080 15.6" display
-DVD Super Multi

I'm buying one of these laptops for college in which I expect I'll be doing some CAD work. But I wouldn't be considering these laptops as much if I wasn't up for some gaming in my free time. I mostly play strategy games (e.g. Empire Total War, Shogun 2) and I know they are resource intensive. I'm looking forward to a computer that will be able to handle Rome total war 2 on high settings but won't break the bank.

tl;dr Will the SLI trump a single GTX 765m in both CAD and games like Total war, or will it suffer micro stutter or incompatibility? Plus is one of these laptops signifficantly better than the other in terms of quality, noise, battery life, reliabillity, eic.

I also appreciate other suggestions in the same price range (max $1200).

Thank you.
