Lenovo laptop with broken screen won't connect to external monitor

Lenovo g580 running Windows 8.1. It won't display anything on a VGA monitor or through the HDMI. I can't adjust any of the settings now, because I have no screen. I don't really have the cash to replace the screen right now, either

I've tried both. Neither will connect

I tried the fn+f7 trick and closing the lid as soon as I powered it up. Still no results

Hi, do you have something on the laptop's screen. Meaning, the laptop's screen and the external monitor don't display anything.

Hi,
I recently had a similar issue with a Sony laptop of my sisters, it turned out that the display wasn't getting the chance to work because the OS wasn't booting, it was attempting a scan on startup. Pressing escape a few times after startup allowed it to boot and the hdmi automatically mirrored the displays after that. Hope this helps
