So looks like Lenovo is running a good sale until Feb. 4th and i'm thinking of buying my wife a new laptop from them. (up to 45% off laptops).

Never owned a Lenovo although many years ago we had some of their Thinkpads at work.

Anything I should know about them? Good Customer Service? Reliable? Easy Warranty exchange?

Thanks! I work in IT, but if there quality is iffy i'd be happy to buy the extended warranty of switch to another brand.

Right now i got her to up the budget to $650 so i'm considering Lenovo, Dell, MSI, & ASUS at the moment.

I never look at brands when buying a laptop. Main reason is all brands do make good models. Looking at a 650 laptop is going to be made with ATI, Realtec, Intel, Western Digital, Nvidia, Sound Blaster and many other components. You could have a couple of $650 with the same components but Dell or Toshiba is the name on the laptop. Typically a 1000 dollar laptop from anyone is going to be better built the a 650 computer from anyone. Apple which is know for quality because they concentrate on higher priced models. Even Apple doesn't use high end components as most don't have discrete graphics cards. The markup on a Apple will be a little more.

Aside from warranty service, the brand of laptop is pretty meaningless. The vast majority of laptops aren't made by the brand name. They're made by something called ODMs - original design manufacturers. Like OEMs, except they also do the design work. The Macbooks for example are designed and built by Quanta, who also happens to make most of HP's laptops (which is always good for a laugh when Mac owners dis HP laptops).

Unfortunately, the industry tries to keep this a secret, so it's impossible to figure out which ODM actually made a particular model.

Lenovos are good as my sister has one which was given to her from her school. It worked quite well and only after about 2 years it is starting to die. I also have a friend that uses a lenovo and it seems that it has been working for a long time. Asus are good with their laptops are are generally have a high quality but they cost more.
