Lenovo Y-series Laptops

I'm planning on upgrading my computer this June since my current computer is literally weaker than a XBOX (the first one). I was going to get the Lenovo Y500 but recently Lenovo released the Haswell Y-Series. Is it a better choice to get the Y410p or should i just continue going to get the Y500. I want to get one of these computers to play games like Borderalnds 2, Bioshock Infinite, Planetside 2 , etc. Medium/High settings 1080p (or 900p if I roll with the y410p).

Differences are Y410p is 14in (vs 15.6 and numpad), has i7-4700MQ (vs a i7-3630qm) and has a 1600x900 resolution screen (vs a 1920x1080p) screen.

Being as its integrated graphics i would suggest using 1600x900, 1080p is alot more demanding and considering its a laptop 1080p is going to be hard to render effeciantly.

There are some technical difference between Haswell and Ivy Bridge but most do not make any difference for gamers. The biggest improvement would be the new integrated graphics core which is roughly 25% more powerful than the HD 4000, but the Y series comes with the GT 750m. The CPU performance increased about 4%, which is not a big deal. There may be a difference in power consumption, but I have not read any reviews regarding the mobile Haswell CPUs.

Based on my experience with the 14" Y470, I recommend you get the 15.6" Y500. While the 14" Y470 is great for portability and it weighs less than the 15.6" Y570, the i5-2410m also runs hot when gaming. It hits 90C - 92C in four games I test, when playing GTA IV it hit 99C and it began to throttle down.

Meanwhile, reading reviews of the Y570 most owners seem to say that the temps where around 75C - 79C when playing games. Therefore, the larger 15.6" offers better cooling probably because of a larger heatsink and more room for airflow.

The temps for the GT 550m are fine. It never went above 65C.

yea im kind of am leaning towards the y500. its cheaper (only by $10 lol) but i read alot about how 1080p is so good (i have a 768p screen) but the y-series doesnt have optimus (a least the ivy bridge ones dont) so IGP is pretty irrelevant
