LG Monitor screen is not filled up.

I have a Lenovo laptop and LG monitor. There is no VGA port on my laptop so I had to get an adapter so it would fit the htmi. My monitor screen is not filled up and is the same size as my laptop screen.

For both screens to use their native resolution you need to have them set as extended displays, not duplicated. If they are set as extended you can then set the monitor resolution to whatever it needs to be.
