Llaptop will not start

Hello,

My laptop battery for the past couple of months dies after around 10 minutes of use when not plugged in, it also used to give a warning when the battry was running low?
Tonight i tried turning my laptop on and it would not start, its also plugged in.
My laptop is a compaq presario cq56.
I dont want to waste money on a new battery if thats not the issue, but it looks like this maybe the problem?

Do you have an indicator light on your laptop that shows when it is plugged into the wall?

Have you tried to power the unit on with the ac adapter plugged in and the battery removed?
