I am looking to spend around $500 for a light duty gaming laptop.
Must haves:
17" or larger screen
Quad Core
750 GB HD
8 GB Ram
Wireless b/g/n
DVDRW
Window 7 or 8 (64 BIT)
Decent video
Can be a refurbished unit.
I am eyeing the HP 17-e049wm

That's probably the best you can get for your requirements and budget. Anything with an AMD A-Series processor will be great for light to medium-duty gaming.
