Logitech Remotes Play Nice With PS3: For $60?

I purchase the Harmony 360 (XBox version) over a year ago and it replaced all of my component RCs immediately. When I picked up the bluetooth-enabled PS3, I eventually got the $15 IR dongle and programmed it into the Harmony. Except for PS3 Power On/Off, it works fine so I'm pleased with it. $60 for a Power Off (no mention of Power On?) capability isn't worth it to me.

just got the 510 (won from a trade show). neat device but my needs are far more simplistic/tricky then most. i only have the tv, dvd/vcr and media computer.

the harmony remote is near more cumbersome then having 2 remotes + wireless keyboard. the issue i have is programming the remote is clumsy with all the "easy to use menus". give me a list of buttons/ modes and commands to assign any time. and the macros mostly just end up messing things up. i have not found a simple list to config the macros. no that would be to complicated for normal people. really is it that bad to have 'macro name' and the list of commands under it?

/endrant;

back to topic:

power button would be nice but too much for my liking. and considering the remote buries the power button should you want manual; i would opt for the cheap ir dongle.

consideration is:
condition: late and sleepy
question: look for remote that is somewhere? or hit the power buttons on devices while on the way to bed anyway.
i just hot the power buttons and leave.

For as many "green your home" articles as I've seen on Toms Guide, why would anyone leave their PS3 (or any electornic device) in a soft-off mode anyway? You should be plugging in to a power strip and shutting off all power to these devices. If you have to do that anyway, being nice and hitting the PS3 power button before cutting the power isn't that much extra of a step.

Of course, who actually does that, cut off all power using a switch of power strip?

Not me, can't even reach my strip. The whole green movement will be laughable in 20 years, the way we look back at the CFC scare of the late 80's and early 90's.

Considering that Audio Authority has a IR to Bluetooth adaptor for $160, the $60 is reasonable for people who want a complete integration with their home theatre system.
I've installed only one of these so far, and even though the home owners thought it was expensive it did provide the solution they were looking for at the time.
Personally, I have a Nyko IR PS3 controller and it's fine. Maybe when I win the lottery I'll get Logitech add-on.
BTW, it's Audio Authority Model C-1071 for those who are curious. Google it if you want to read more.

from what i've seen people do in the home automation arena, remotes are starting to be replaced with wifi connected phones and pda's, making the harmony remotes kind of redundant in today's age..

Also another point to add, living green isn't possible, given that most things we run chew power.....

if you're going to have a universal remote system in use in the home, the remote itself need's to be able to put all the gear you have sourced to that remote into stand-by mode, the failure to a stand-by feature within the remote for everything makes you wonder why bother buying the remote in the 1st place, when this 1 simple feature is missing..

Then again I've never seen this feature on the sony remotes you buy for the ps2 or ps3, so I guess this feature is still not available on the consoles as of yet..

I've got two 890 Pro's and three extenders. This is what I've been waiting for, but not till it's cheaper. I've gotten my remotes and extenders for half the MSRP or less, if I can get this for 20-30, I'd probably do it.

I just bought the nyko blue wave thing, programmed that into my harmony 1 and it was good to go. I have to put a movie into the PS3 to watch it, so that requires me to get up and turn it on anyway. You can turn it off in the PS3 main interface, so thats not an issue. I havent trained my cats to put discs into the slot yet...so no need for a power button...yet..

Ridiculous, after spending a pretty penny on the "ONE" I think it should be FREE to people that need it !!!
