Look gaming headphones

Hello I currently use the Logitech THX Z-5300e 280 Watts 5.1 speaker, however my brother speakers broke and i plan on giving him mine, and looking to switch to headphones.

I do game a lot, but also watch a lot of movies. I'm looking for headphones with great sound quality
but don't care about mic quality. (I have blue snowball microphones)
My motherboard does not support 5.1 surround sound but I am willing to buy a sound card if its in my budget range. which is 300$ CAN.

I was thinking of getting Razer Tiamat Over Ear 7.1 Surround Sound PC Gaming Headset with
Vantec USB External 7.1 Channel Audio Adapte but I feel like i am wasting money because the headset comes with a mic

You can get the razer kraken? It's one of the best headsets out there and comes in a lot of colours

AKG, Sennhieser, Beyerdynammic, and there are others that make very good sound quality headphones on the affordable.

You could even get these:

Also something I would like to know is how important is surround sound in headphones?

Not their best but I'm sure they'd serve you well. I have the PC 360 from Sennheiser and got a Soundblaster Z to run them and they are awesome! Great 3d directional positioning for CS GO and music/movies sound great compared to what I used to run. But of course it does with a 100$ sound card and 260$ headphones(on sale <3)

They improve the sound output, people only buy them if they have 5.1 surround sound or a high tech speaker system, for the average joe, your motherboard on board audio is fine

Soundcards are good if you have nice headphones or speakers to run them. If you don't spend a lot on headphones you won't notice a difference with a sound card.

I used to have a pair of 7.1 headphones and i thought the surround was terrible. It had too many drivers in the headphones and didn't give good surround because of it. Get a good pair with 1 driver in each ear.

Surround sound in headphones is important if it's important to you! I wanted the soundcard/headphones for CS GO so I can hear people sneaking up on me. It has been helpful and I feel like it was worth it. But if you don't care about 3d positioning like that, I wouldn't worry about it.
