Looking for a laptop between $400-$500 for a 12 year old that will play minecraft and a few other games on steam like five nights at freddy's. He's not a big gamer but loves minecraft. Any suggestions?

Solution
I would go with the asus with the 6th gen cpu. It will be more than enough for minecraft and as it is the latest generation of cpu and gpu it should run a lot cooler than the others.

As far as I know, Minecraft requires a lot of CPU power rather than a good graphics card. Laptop_Nerd pointed some good options, I can give you one more - my girlfriend has a Lenovo B50 with an i5-4210U processor, which is a pretty good deal and we got it for around $430 a while ago. They also have some models with a dedicated graphics card if you want to be playing other GPU-requiring games on it.

Hello! I've done some more researching and found an HP laptop with the specs below for about the same price as the ASUS you recommended. What is the difference between the HP I found and the ASUS? Which one would be a better computer? From what I can tell they are about the same? Which one would you recommend between the two brands?

Windows 10 home 64
6th gen INtel Core i5 6200U dual core processor+ intel HD graphics 520
8GB DDR3L - 1 DIMM
15.6 inch diagonal HD brightview WLED backit display(1366X768)
1TB 5400 rpm hard drive
office software trial
security software trial
4 cell 41WHr lithium ion battery
supermulti DVD burner
standard keyboard
HP truevision HD webcam with Dual Digital microphone
802.11b/g/n/WLAN 1x1

Thanks!!!!

As a matter of specs this looks pretty good. My only concern is that lately I haven't heard anything good about HP's laptops and most people that I know who own one, have been disappointed. It might be just a coincidence and it's all up to you in the end. I haven't personally used an HP like...ever, so I can't tell you anything on my own experience.
