Looking for a laptop with a focus on memory

My old HP 8560w died, and I'm looking for a new laptop. My biggest grievance with the old HP was that it had only 4gb memory (and the back panel opening mechanism broke, preventing installing more) and no SSD, which made it very easy for me to run out of memory and trigger huge lag as everything started to swap to the HD.

Battery life and portability are irrelevant as I stay plugged in 24/7. All my files are on an external usb 3 hd, so storage is also not that important. As of late I haven't been doing anything more graphics intensive than youtube. On the other hand I run some pretty heavy stuff in the background, enough to make my old (also dusty) HP's intel i7-2630qm run a little too hot. I run linux so it would be a shame to pay for a pre-installed windows.

I'm in Finland (EU) and the budget is <1000e. I'm open to spending less if you think there is a better price point.

Now I'm very much out of touch, but what I think is the best I have found so far is the Lenovo 510p @ 999e (http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00FBGI34I/ Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p 39,6 cm (15.6 FHD LED ANTI-GLARE) Notebook (Intel Core i7 4700MQ, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD, NVIDIA GeForce GT 755M / 2 GB,DOS) Schwarz). I'd gladly go for an inferior GPU or SSD if that meant getting even more memory or just to save money, if I could find a laptop like that.

So much memory may seem a little ridiculous, but I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting that much. 4gb is way too little. 16gb might be enough, or it might be just a little short at the worst times. 32gb ought to be enough for many years.

Thanks in advance

I still travel, so getting a desktop is not such a good option. A desktop/"home server" plus a cheap netbook could work, but I'm not sure I'd like the logistics of that.
