Looking for a price range on a laptop for universty (in U.S dollars)

As I'm mostly a PC guy, I have no idea what's the price range and characteristics for a laptop.

I'm searching for a laptop with an ssd for the op system and microsoft office, a battery that will sufice for around 5/6 hours and about 500 giga hard drive.

Most laptops never come with Office unfortunately, and it is a required separate purchase. What I do know is that you want to buy one that will last 4 years and be comfortable, as you will be on it a lot.

Yes, sorry I didn't mean to imply that I want the Microsoft Office allready installed.... just a price range so I won't get ripped off and buy some overpriced low performing junk.

When going to college, you should always buy a treat laptop that will be comfortable and reliable for all four years. I would look into the $800-$1000 price range. Will you be doing any gaming?

You should look into a laptop with a solid-state-drive (SSD) for much faster operating system boot speeds. I would also aim for one with 8GB RAM. Check your local stores (Best Buy) for a good laptop that fits these needs. An i5 processor would also be preferably good.
