Looking for a software to organise parts by customer

Hey forum, I'm looking for a software for my business that allows me to have a file for each customer I have. I then need to be able to sort within each customer by current order. I need to be able to enter in keywords for each part the customer has, so my employee can go onto the computer, simply type keywords into the search field of this program, and know which part belongs to which customer. So the search has to search every customer in the program. Price is no obstacle here so I'm looking for the best possible software available for this.

Basically something like this...

John Smith

Order 3 (8/2013)
1. Comp Cams .875 lift
2. Manley 156889
3. Electronics box black

Order 2 (1/2013)
1. Pushrods 15564
2. Fel-Pro 1223
3. Levi's Jeans x 5
4. Ebay order P.O. 13

So then my employee can open the program, type in ".875 Lift" and know exactly which customer that item belongs to simply by the search function of the program.

Thanks,
Austin

This is a basic database concept. Could be built trivially in an afternoon with Microsoft Access or similar.

That, of course, depends on a whole host of other questions a competent requirements analyst would ask.

How many users, how many concurrent users, web based or client/server, predicted amount of traffic...stuff like that.
But the basic concept is dead easy.

This is only going to be used by me and my employee, basically I would take an order, enter it into the program from the computer in my office, and my employee would then later on go onto the other computer in the warehouse and sort the parts by using the program. So I'm thinking it might be easiest if the program simply used basic homegroup sharing to sync between the computers but maybe web based is a better option.

Do you have MS Office with Access?
If so, here is a free template that would probably do 95% of what you need.
"Order management database"
'Manage all aspects of your customer’s orders with this database template. It tracks customers, order details, payment methods, products and shipping methods.'

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/results.aspx?qu=inventory&ex=1&avg=zac#ai:TC001018548|

If I were building this for someone, there are a few tweaks I'd make to it, but for basic order management, this will do it.

I don't have access but I will definitely purchase it if that template is what I need. One more question though, just looking at the screenshot of that it doesn't seem to have a search feature. Is that included with the template?

After playing with it for a few minutes, no, it doesn't appear to have a direct customer search function. But any reasonably competent programmer could add that easily.

But there are many, many other similar applications available. Search google for "order management" and see what returns.
Some free, some not so free.
