Hi, I'm from UK and looking for a laptop that I can bring around with me when I'm not in my house.
I'll only use it for simple programming and (maybe) low-profile games such as Garry's mod, l4d2 and similar steam games.
Since I already have a gaming desktop at home, I only need something for when I'm away and moving about, so I'm focussing on the laptop's "agility" and speed.

The main things I want are:
Not too big. Maybe 14-15"
SSD, any size.
Ability to play source games with a decent frame rate.
Low cost. If possible I'd like to spend around £300. (or less, might be dreaming though!)

I've been looking at http://
and http://

But I was thinking maybe I could go cheaper and still get what I need, seeing as I won't be doing anything very stressful.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Any laptop with an i3 haswell cpu and at least 4GB of RAM will do what you are asking for. L4D2 and Garry'd Mod are both really old games so their hardware requirements are low. You can go for AMD here for the better graphics but honestly intel will perform better on a laptop for what you are asking.

Edit: Ok there is no laptop at that low of a price that will have good enough hardware to play the games you want. But I found a really good laptop for your a bit more than your price here http://www.newegg.com/global/uk/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA0AJ1V97328&cm_re=laptop-_-34-314-150-_-Product

You wont find anything better at that price.

Yes the ivy bridge should also not be too bad if you completely lower all graphics settings but the "U" indicates its a low power so try looking for a higher power one instead if you can. Also dual channel RAM is extremely important here so if your laptop has only 1 stick and you can add another I suggest you to do that.

"generic laptop" always sounds sketchy
Hah! You're right, but it's cheap and claims to have a warranty, so I think it's trustworthy enough!

I see, thanks. Problem is I can't find anything better without the price rocketing up :( !
Maybe I'll hold off until I find any more decent deals.

Edit : My current laptop can't even run youtube videos in 1080p quality. If this one can do that then I'll probably be happy to be honest.
