Looking to buy a desktop replacement - what's more important?

I'm looking to buy a laptop for around £800-£1000 (around $1200-$1700) that will handle design and music production software easily (i.e. photoshop etc...) and is capable of gaming, though ultra settings/hard-core gaming isn't necessary. Durability and future-proofing is fairly important though I know that's limited with many laptops.

Portability and a decent battery life isn't necessary either (though always nice) - I'd much rather have something lower cost/higher specs/doesn't overheat than is super thin and light.

My main problem is that the only things I can find in my price range seem to always be lacking in one area, so if I had to compromise (considering my usage) what would you suggest is the least/most important to have:
A decent SSD
Good Graphics card
Large RAM (everything I'm looking at is 8GB+)
anything else?

Or even better, any recommendations for particular laptops?

I've done a fair amount of research, but still not too knowledgeable so any help is appreciated! Thanks :)

knock yourself out and have it all
i7 quad core
8GB ram
gtx 860M - will run everything high or better
beast wireless card
7200RPM 500GB main hardrive ( can go to 750)
120GB SSD
extra cooling paste.
and windows 8.1
all for £999 - no seriously add it all up it genuinely is £999

Huh, that's definitely something worth checking out - thanks!
I haven't really heard much about pc specialist or those laptops - the specs and price look amazing but any ideas if there are ever issues with overheating/noise etc...?
