Looking to connect loudspeakers

Excuse me if I sound like a novice but I've never experienced with audio before. I recently purchased a set of Skytec SL6s 150w loudspeakers, however when I connected them using a 3.5m to 6.5m audio cable to my laptop or iPhone the audio is very quiet which leads me to believe they require more power. If I were to connect them to a home stereo would they deliver louder audio? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Yes, they require an amplifier. A home stereo would work. You would use the red/black connectors and standard speaker wire.

Is plugging both speakers directly into the home stereo safe? I am using standard 3.5m audio cables. When tested it delivers loud and clear audio.

The pictures show them to be 8ohm speakers. Using one as left and one as right should not be an issue with any home stereo.
