Solved! MA3 laptop failure

I offered to try to fix an MA3 Gaateway laptop. The battery was low and replaced. When I manage to turn on the computer it stays on for about three minutes and then shuts down. It is running Windows7 Ultimate 64bit. There is 2GB of RAM. The HD is 134GB (?). When I first changed the battery I got into Windows, connected to the internet and updates needed to be downloaded and installed. There were 60. The updates were downloaded and installed. I wasn't fully aware of the need to charge the battery and didn't do so. I did download the manual after doing the updates before fully charging the battery. Now the system shuts down after a few seconds. Does anyone have any idea what is going on or whether this computer is worth fixing. I believe this compute was manufactured in 2006. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It sounds like it could be over heating. Can you hear any fans running when you are able to get it to turn on? If you can get it to stay on long enough, download something like Speedfan or Realtemp to see what kind of temps it is getting.
