I believe disassembling a mac book pro will void the warranty, if any. The preferred method is to take it to an apple store and have their technicians do it.

Not a whole lot of stuff you can mess up inside a Macbook, most of the space is taken by the battery, at the same time, watch out for tiny ribbon cables, you break a pin, will be a PITA to try to repair it. While you are in there, may as well re-paste and give it a new fan. How old is this puppy?

You say it is 5 years old so it should have the removable bottom cover. Removing the bottom cover is easy to do and is the only way to properly clean a MacBook. Once removed, you will see 1 or 2 fans. Those are very easy to remove and clean. Dust and dirt can form a mat that is not easily removed by just blowing air in the fan area. Check out guides on www.ifixit.com for help and to see what it takes.
