Manfrotto tall stand alternative?

Today I received word from Kevin Lackey at Bogen that the
Manfrotto 053 (Bogen No. 3076) "Giant" or "Tallboy" stand, which
many of us use for tall mic stands, is no longer being produced.

ACK!

Can anyone suggest an alternative? How about a supplier with
leftover old stock? I'd like to get ahold of six or so for a
brand new concert hall where I'm working...

Thanks in advance,
FL

A little shakey for my tastes, but there's nothing else anywhere near its weight and storage size.

Manfrotto's 3079 goes to 15'9" but weighs & costs quite a bit more.

I use Avenger A410B's. Only 13' but solid as a rock and has the lazy leg for sloping floors. Add on a 3369 extension and they go up quite a bit more, but I rarely extend them since the wiggle too much. I think the A410B plus the non-extended extension is about 17' or so.

Matthews makes a 25-footer but it's not cheap.

Is Bogen selling an equivalent?

Wes Dooley is selling a stand that appears to be identical to the older
Shure S15 stand (which Shure has now replaced with a much cheaper and
clumsier model). It's not cheap, though.

I got a rather terse, one sentence answer from the Bogen rep., so
I asked whether there is a suitable replacement - no answer as
yet.

Thanks I'll check that out, as well as the Avenger and Matthews
stands.

Thanks, I check that out, along with the Avenger (which is a
Bogen product??) Any suggestions as to who might handle the
Matthews line?

Avenger and Bogen are both trade names of Manfrotto, the parent company.

Where are you? Photographer's Lighting Supply in SF handles them, but you can often do as well or better buying direct from Matthews. Best bet is to find a DP friend who does a lot of business with them and has a good discount.

I'm teaching at a University in Indiana, and would need to
arrange the purchase through "official" channels - a dealer, an
account, purchase numbers, etc.

I, personally, have had a couple of the tall Manfrottos for years
now, and was very disappointed to learn of their discontinuance.
I've only had a few sessions where I've needed the full height,
but when you have a church choir on a balcony with no room in
front, you do need twenty to twenty-four feet of elevation to get
the mikes into a remotely decent position. Also, the size and
weight when folded up make them a far better choice for the aging
roadie. I guess I'm just not enough of a market segment...

Anyone got any Manfrotto Giants for sale?

not sure if this has been covered here already, but........

Matthews (MSE) was always a sturdier, more expensive line than the
comparable models from Manfrotto/Bogen-Avenger. But last year MSE
introduced a new line specifically to compete at the Avenger level,
and they called it the "Revenger" series, I'm not making this up.

I purchased one of their inexpensive "baby" (5/8") format stands for
about $100 and it has worked very well for me. Its a 12 footer with
three risers and is finished in a semi flat black. IT is certainly
not comparable to the "real" Matthews stands, but it is a very
practical choice for our type of use.
Search for REvenger on the MSE website.
