Manufacturers downgrading display resolution

Why are laptop makers downgrading screen resolution? There seems to be fewer models with higher resolution. When I searched for a laptop of various sizes for a display resolution of 1920x1080, several were older models. When I selected to see the newer versions, they often have a resolution of 1366x768.
