With 2x8 = 16GB Ram
Can I upgrade it into 32 GB

You can upgrade your RAM only if your laptop supports 32GB.

The max that hp specifies is 16, however some users report they are using theirs with 32 installed(aftermarket).

That laptop has a 7th gen Intel Core i7-7700HQ CPU which supports 16GB DDR4 RAM sticks. So with two slots the max supported RAM is 32GB. However, the CPU can support a total 64GB of RAM if there were 4 RAM slots.
