Setting aside the obvious typo of 3Q11 to 3Q12, this simply underscores the article from few days ago that claimed Android malware was up 427% from July.

Has anyone on here ever had malware on their phone? Or is it a 'facebook situation', in which you've got to be pretty slow to accept the 'you've won $100000'. Unfortunately, majority of users ARE pretty slow.

In other totally unrelated news, McAfee want to sell android users their WaveSecure service.

This is just typical scaremongering by a company with a long-standing track record of scamming illiterate users out of money by peddling FUD and various unethical tactics for duping their customers.

You know how we can "Thumbs Up" or "Thumbs Down" comments? We need to be able to do that with the articles themselves....

You're walking around with a computer in your pocket, that happens to have a phone app. Was only a matter of time before this surge happened. Just like any other software platform, it will just force the devs to make make it more secure.

This from a company whose latest product (2012) rated a 5 out of 10 by MaximumPC. In one test, McAfee said the system was clean. Malwarebytes detected more than 40 infections, including a MyDoom variant that sabatoged 25% of MaximumPC's CPU.

Also, while testing it's protection on the web by going to some of the more "suspicious" sites, McAfee tried to stop hostile downloads, but it wasn't completely successful. They kept having file after file show up on their desktop. As they clicked them, McAfee required a reboot to remove the offending file and even after they rebooted numerous times, they STILL had an infected PC.

So, this article from McAfee to me is something to take with a grain of salt.

Basically, as long as you practice SAFE surfing on the internet (using Firefox with NoScript and AdBlock for 'iffy' sites) you won't have any problems.
