Hello everyone.

I have the laptop mentioned in the thread name.

I need some help with choosing memory for my 3 year old laptop.
I used to have 2 x 1 GB DDR2 out of which one went bad and had to remove it to get the laptop to boot.

So I am left with 1 stick that is 1GB with the following specs. The other stick was exactly similar to this one in case it matters. (These are what came with the laptop.)
i.e I have it running in single channel
PC2 5300 (333Mhz) (running dual should take it to 667mhz right??)
Manufacturer : Qimonda

I want to run at dual channel as vista is a resource hog and this bandwidth is simply not enough for me.
I am going to ditch the 1GB I already have.

The Questions
1. Should I get CAS 5 PC2 5300 or CAS 6 PC2 6400
Which would perform better?

2. I cant afford 2X 2GB sticks and I want more than 2 GB. So if I get 1 x 1GB and 1x 2GB (total 3GB)of the same speeds and manufacturer will I experience any performance penalties compared to 2 x 2GB. And would it be any problem to dual channel?

3. If I dont ditch the 1GB I have and just get another 1GB (or 2GB)of different manufacturer would I get dual channel without any problems?
Also would mixing different speed RAM affect dual channel performance? Will I notice it in daily usage?

Sorry about the length and thanks in advance.
