Instead of making all these people that trusted MS to stay compatible rewrite all their software, maybe MS should update some of their older offerings such as IE6. Just a thought.

IE6 is a stigma to MS just like Vista. How can MS produce such a crappy product and did nothing much to improve it or fix it until Mozilla became a serious alternative?

Those users are... uh... stupid. Or stuck. There are some stupid custom tools out there that work in IE6, but not 7 and above. Of course IE7 sucked so much, that some people gave up bothering with IE8.

All these users can simply go to Opera 11, Firefox 3~4 or Chrome 40.x

[citation][nom]itchyisvegeta[/nom]If they really want people to stop using it, then they should release a new Service Pack for XP that includes a mandatory update. Just sayin.[/citation]
^^^ This

Although, a lot of the people who disable automatic updates are also using IE6.. so may fail there..
Personally i think that web devs, microsoft and any one else who is likely to be developing something for a web browser should just ignore compatibility for IE6 and let people discover that they need something new..
Or even better, write a little Javascript that checks if the browser is IE6, then displays a message telling them to upgrade, even provide a link to MS's page for downloading IE8 for XP...
I remember a couple websites doing exactly this when IE8 came out. They put a glaring message stating that they were dropping support for IE6 and told you to update to IE8, FF3 or Opera

IE6 is the standard and will be the standard... (( it is hard to move companys off there legacy software.

Your figures are wrong, where is Chrome and where is IE8 etc? Maybe your sample size is too small or maybe your web site appeals to third world countries.

If they contact all of our software vendors that refuse to offer I.E. 7,8,9 support for their products, we'd be happy to move from I.E. 6. Or they can send us a few 100k so we can upgrade the versions for some of those, that would work also.

@gmcd2243 : WTH is this "major website"? Please, I really want to know. Internet Explorer 3 on Windows 95? 14.51%??? You expect us to beleive that crap? No FF? No Chrome? Safari being first? If you truly believe the numbers you are posting, I genuinely feel sorry for you. If not, please stop trolling and get out of your mother's basement.

Can't drop IE6. Government computers still use XP and SAP software is accessed through IE6. No money to upgrade. Will be disaster for us if we have to do it, especially since we have massive layoffs, pay cuts and other problems.
