what uses Silverlight LOB , windows phone api there are alot of common functional points between wpf and wpf/e ( aka silverlight ) and it does offer some neat separation ideas for program components resources styles code and presentation
i have liked the experience programming in silverlight and there seems to be quite a sharing community around it

i think the 2010 winter olympics used silverlight for streaming videos to people aswell ...

Anyone who has looked deeply into all 3 technologies will find that HTML5 applications are easier to "deploy" - but far from functional for building serious, deep desktop applications in a web browser. This capability is 3-5 years away.

Flash has a huge footprint, but is a little flaky and under-powered from a development perspective. Although - this is debatable. There are many games built in flash for the consumer market - but how many real companies built a real corporate LOB app in flash? Too few to mention. Flash lacks all the development sophistication needed to deliver something useful.

SilverLight has a smaller footprint, but is designed for the development of desktop like applications in a web browser. C# is far better than JS - although with time, that can change as more money flows into the HTML5/JS combination. Regardless, it looks like SL will be rolled into "WinRT", which is part of Windows 8. So rumours of its demise are a little premature.

Each technology has its pros and cons. None are perfect. But as someone who develops apps in all 3, I can say HTML5 has a long way to go before it can fully displace either Flash or SL.

The two sites I read the most -- Maximum PC & Tom's -- are only putting out this news today, SL5 launched last week on December 9th...!

I logged in just to Comment this Yes it may have been launched last week but people do have a life not reading news all day. The way I put it when Friday 5:00 PM comes everything for me is shutdown I don't care if Intel bought out AMD over the weekend I'll read next week and that's the way every site should be. Its the weekend go have fun, play a game, spend time with the girlfriend and live life.

Maximum PC may have one hell of a Magazine but all they put on the there site are stuff from the Magazine and Copy and Paste from other sites. I love Tom's Hardware and Maximum PC for hardware Reviews, not that I buy everything I read about but come on I think weekends should be fun not sitting behind a desk reading news.

And people complaining about Apple not supporting Flash. This just proves that Apple management has much more forth-site into the future of tech than your typical (think they know it all) dudes on the webz.
