Microtac 650e

At great personal expense I am now the owner of a Motorola Microtac
650e. I am looking for a resource that will program the phone,
including inserting my phone number into it. At present I have a FIDO
GSM phone but of course Fido coverage is about .00234% of the land
area of Canada so the GSM phone is pretty much useless.
Someone at Fido customer service told me that if I got an old analog
phone and then got it programmed with my phone number, then it would
work as long as the phone was receiving a signal.
Anyone know where I can find someone to do this, or find the tools
to try this myself, at home. Alone.

I'm located on Vancouver Island.

There is no work needed on your behalf, you call customer service, supply
them with the inactive ESN number of your analog phone, and they take care
of the rest.
You will be charged 0.20$/min, billed every 30s. Just make sure your Fido
phone is off when you turn on your brick phone.

Except he still needs to program the phone to have his phone number in it.
I'll see if I can find the programming for it and post the instructions here
(or email them to you).

If the phone is a "e" model you can use the quick programming, 74663#
<FCN><FCN> 10 digit phone number <STO> system id (call FIDO) <STO>

You also have to make sure it is set up to receive the "B" network.

Press <FNC> then press * until B is listed then press <STO>

Well, as it turned out I didn't have to do very much at all to get
that phone activated. I called Fido cust. service and the guy that I
talked to walked me though the whole (very short) procedure. They do
have to have the phone serial number so that they can enter it, or so
he said. In any case it's working fine now. So far- so good. And all
for a cost of 11,00 at my local auction.
