Mirrow inside camera

Hello,
i keep getting 3/4 of a black photo every time i take a picture with my Canon Rebel. what does this mean?

Does this happen when you are using the flash? Does it have an X/M setting? Usually it means that the settings (exposure Vs flash) are not synchronized. Shutter setting issue.
