Monitor doesn't recognize laptop

So my Samsung laptops screen has been broken for a while now and I have to hook it up to a monitor. It's worked for 2 years before today and today it just stopped. I use an HDMI cord to hook it up. Please help

Hi,

Here are some troubleshooting steps that may help in solving the issue.
- Start with a hard reboot, remove the battery and AC adapter off the laptop then press and hold the power for 20 seconds then see if it will load onto your external monitor.
- If the same problem will persist, do disconnect the ribbon cable that connects the build in display to the motherboard so the external monitor would act as the default monitor so everything should show up in it.
