monitor shows no signal on pc

Dear people,

Need help here. I bought today new monitor Acer company which I tried to connect to my old PC and it showed no signal. So I thought sth was wrong with my monitor and tried it on on laptop and it worked normally. So then I tried connecting my old monitor and old PC and it also worked which means sth is wrong with my new monitor connection with my old pc. What should I do now since everything Is working but not together only separately? Thank you very much for your help.

Make sure you're using the right port on your PC and on your monitor. eg graphics card hdmi to monitor hdmi.

Yes,actually I checked it..it is fine..what I asked my friend who is an It guy..it might be that my pc has windows xp so it is not compatible... I will try installing windows 7

What wouldn't be compatible with Windows XP?
