Hi guys, I need to get more HDMI ports for my TV. I'm just wondering: Is it a HDMI splitter or a HDMI switch that I need?? I'm so confused...

Solution
Splitter = send one output signal to multiple displays
Switch = connect multiple devices to one display
Matrix = combination of multiple devices and multiple screens

However, the problem is that most shops and manufacturers mess around with those terms as they like.

Just make sure that the „Output“ and „Input“ ports are clearly indicated on the splitter or switch that you’re going to buy! (See an example of the difference in ports here: http://hdmiguru.hubpages.com/hub/Hot-to-Get-More-HDMI-Ports-HDMI-Expansion-Made-Easy )
And make sure those ports fit your needs.

I'm assuming you're trying to plug multiple things into the TV and ran out of spaces. If this is so, you require a switch.

If, however, you need a slot to connect the TV to a device that is also connected to something else at the same time you will need a splitter. This splitter will only ever show the same image on both the TV and whatever other display.
