I think you are comparing the Gigabyte laptop's DDR3 system memory with the MSI laptop's GDDR5 graphic memory. I'm sure both use DDR 3 for the system memory and (G)DDR5 for the VRAM. After that, you are on your own as to the choice between the two.

this option is as powerful as the MSI apache but has better build quality, cooling and battery life whilst also being thinner. It's also for the same price.
if this is unavailable then the MSI is more powerful (around 25% better) but the gigabyte has much better build quality and cooling.

I stand corrected. After looking at the specs, they both use DDR 3 for the gfx VRAM. Surprising. The Gigabyte has a slightly faster CPU. But apart from that, they are similar in specs. Without a hands-on examination, I couldn't pick one over the other.
