MSI GX640 Specs @ $1099

i5 430m - 2.2 ghz (2.5 turbo)
4 GB RAM
Mobility Radeon 5850 1GB
500 GB HDD 7200 RPM
1680 x 1050
DVD Burner
15.4"

Alienware M11x Specs @ approx $1099

Core2Duo 1.3 SU7300 (OC to 1.7)
NVdia GT 335 1GB
500 GB HDD 7200 RPM
1366 x 768
No optical Drive
11.6"

I am considering to buy either the MSI or the alienware. Clearly, based on the specs, the MSI overpowers the alienware quite a bit. But I've seen in some videos that the m11x can handle the games that I usually play, Grid, Dirt, Starcraft 2 beta, Battlefield, Modern Warfare 2, and I know that the GX640 can handle it too.

For Quality, i am in doubt about MSI laptops since if I get the gx640, that's my first time getting it. As for dell and alienware, they have been tried and tested over the years and I have a Dell inspiron e1505, so I know they have good quality.

My purpose for this laptop (which ever one is decided on) are just daily tasks (internet, email, videos) some photoshop and flash, and GAMES!! :D

I just want to lean on one side because I dont want to regret any decision I make. I just need the community's help.

Thanks Guys.

gx640 is a better everyday laptop because of it's standard size. it is more powerful and has a higher res.

if you really want an alienware wait a few months b/c they are updating the m11x with core i processors and possibly fermi

Hi Jiro, The Msi GX640 Wins the Mx11 hands down. Seriously you should go for the GX640, I believe you will definitely regret it if you go for the MX11. For one, The slow 1.3Ghz will NOT let you run photoshop without getting you frustrated, but thats is my opinion. The Msi Machine is beating the MX11 in almost every aspect. I know that you find MX11 is cool and sleek as I once intended to get it too ><
However, its better to be more practical. Cheers :D

GX460 anyday, becasue alienware's laptops are well over priced for what you get, unless you get the m17x with the best specs, then you save money but go with the gx460 sounds like the better choice

Well you're right about the practicality. And I am not really buying a laptop just for games and internet anyway. As much as possible, I would want to do something productive with it.

Thanks. :D

They would probably put Nvidia Optimus in the scene here. Do you think they will still have a good price when these upgrades are available? I would think it'll go up to an M15x pricing.

But yeah, everybody favors dear old gx640. :D
THanks:D

I'd go for msi, the ati chip supports dx11 which is future proof and performance is better also you cant compare i5 to core duo in performance as core duo is just a tweaked dual core and the i5's cache is more plus it uses tripple channel on the processor which syncs well with the memory but only if the memory is ddr3.

Yeah, both are DDR3. I forgot to mention.
