Hi everyone,

I need to buy a good gaming laptop and I have chosen two brands (MSI and Asus), but I have no idea which one I should buy. Actually, I'm buying a gaming laptop not as a desktop alternative and I have a custom build high performance desktop. I have to go to the university at the beginning of the next year and I need to stay at the university hostel. So I need a personal laptop to use there and I play games on my spare time. Therefore, I hope to buy a high performance gaming laptop.

I have chosen one model from each brand

Asus - ROG GL551

MSI - GS60

http://www.amazon.com/MSI-GS60-GHOST-003-9S7-16H212-003-15-6-Inch/dp/B00IQ4H7E4/ref=sr_1_4?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1416212568&sr=1-4

Overall, I like the MSI laptop over the Asus laptop despite the higher price. They both have almost the same specs. The Asus laptop has a DVD Rom, but it's not necessary for me. I would choose a thin and light laptop over a bulky laptop which has a DVD Rom.

I need to know which brand is more reliable and which laptop has the best cooling system and display. Similarly, can someone explain me why there is a 1 TB HDD and 128 GB SSD in the MSI laptop? Does it improve the HDD performance? If there is a better laptop than these which around $1500, please let me know.

Thanks.

Well obviously the msi better speced since it has a ssd with a hdd. Ssd is similar to hdd but it has no moving parts and it is faster than a hdd. If you don't mind loading times then the Asus is fine.

Actually, those laptops are too bulky for me and they are extremely hard to carry wherever I go. Yeah, the GTX 970M blows the GTX 860M out of the water. But the gaming laptop is not my primary gaming machine. I have a GTX 780 ti in my PC. Actually, I buy a gaming laptop is for my personal use plus gaming at the university only. Anyway, thanks for your assistance.
